Move Over, Turkey. Holiday Ham is Here!

There are some really great traditions here in the U.S. Not surprisingly, many of them involve food. People usually barbecue every Fourth of July and Labor Day. Valentine’s Day has its oysters and chocolate-covered strawberries. What would Halloween be like without it’s copious amounts of candy? Or Christmas without eggnog?

Leftover ham is perfect for breakfast food of any kind!

However, we think there’s one tradition that might be ready to take over — holiday ham instead of turkey for Thanksgiving! Here at Hobe’s Country Ham, we obviously have a special place in our hearts for ham, but there’s a few reasons why you should consider it as well.

First, turkeys are notoriously difficult to cook. You have to defrost a frozen turkey for days before the big event, taking up precious fridge space. Even if you do manage to get both the breast meat and the thinner thigh meat cooked at the same time, there’s a good chance that you’ll end up with a dry piece of meat on your plate.

Next, prepping the turkey can be enough to put anyone off poultry forever. No one has ever stuck their hand up a frozen turkey, pulled out the bag of innards, and thought, “Yum! I can’t wait for dinner!” You don’t have this issue with ham. Once it’s in your home, you can’t wait to dig in.

Finally, holiday ham makes for far superior leftovers than a turkey. Thanksgiving usually ends up with a large plate of dark meat leftovers that will be thrown out in a week, but ham? Holiday ham leftovers can be made into sandwiches and yummy, thick soups for days!

Let’s break with tradition and start a new one! Rather than gobble down on the gobbler this Thanksgiving, put a delicious holiday ham from Hobe’s Country Ham on your table.
