When you have a feast to host, you want to ensure that every delectable element is prepared to perfection. Naturally, the meal centers around the main course, and with our whole hams, you’ll be confident your guests will enjoy a feast to remember.

Three Expert Tips for Preparing a Whole Ham

Here are our three expert tips for preparing a whole ham:

  1. Know what you’re working with. Our whole hams are smoked to perfection using the same old-fashioned recipe we’ve been using for 50 years. Our cured ham ages for at least 90 days to ensure that same great country taste each and every time. With our ham’s authentic country flavor, there’s no need for an elaborate recipe.
  2. Keep it simple. A whole ham is a lot of meat to work with, so it’s best to keep things simple. Beyond the Southern, smoky flavor of our country whole hams, consider one other flavor you want to complement your ham. A maple glaze or a spicy herb can bring out all the natural flavors of our hams with the perfect amount of flare.
  3. Soak, steam, and glaze. Soaking a whole ham helps rid it of some of the excess salt that it acquires as a result of the curing process. Submerge the ham in water for at least a day, changing the water out every few hours. Then, cover the ham in foil and steam it in the oven using a few cups of water, broth, or your liquid of choice in the bottom of the pan. Once fully cooked through, apply your glaze and cook on high until your ham achieves that delectable sheen.
