Homemade Tomato Sauce with Country Ham
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 1 hour and 45 minutes
Serves: 6-8
Ingredients:
29 oz. can tomato puree
1 can tomato paste
2 roma tomatoes, diced
2 cups mushrooms, chopped
2 shallots, diced
3 cups chicken broth
4 oz. Hobe’s Country Ham, cubed
3 cups chicken broth
1 tsp. fresh oregano, minced
1 tsp. dried thyme
3 tsp. sugar
2 bay leaves
1 T. olive oil
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. crushed black pepper
1 lb. (16 oz.) pasta noodles
Grated parmesan for garnish (optional)
*large slow cooker*
Instructions:
Add all ingredients to the slow cooker, except the pasta, and thoroughly mix the ingredients. Cover the slow cooker with its lid and set the temperature to high. Cook for 1 hour and 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Once the tomato sauce nears its cooking time completion, put on a large pot of boiling water and add a tablespoon of salt. Add in the pasta and stir to avoid each noodle from sticking to each other. Boil until pasta is al dente. Pour pasta into a strainer to remove water then transfer to desired serving dish. Cover with lid, foil, or plastic wrap to maintain heat.
Give the sauce a final stir, then turn off the slow cooker. Transfer sauce into desired serving dish or leave in the pot to serve with pasta.
Notes:
To avoid pasta from sticking together after cooking, pour and mix a teaspoon of olive oil into the pasta. This will prevent it from sticking, but unfortunately hinders the sauce from sticking to the noodles. The choice is yours.
