It’s that time again! Now that the holiday season is starting to ramp up, our thoughts turn to décor, to chilly temperatures, and perhaps most importantly, to seasonal food favorites. Whether you are hosting a holiday meal or have been asked to help with the hosting duties, you might want to consider making a beneficial change to holiday traditions. Whole ham is delicious, flavorful, and makes for wonderful leftovers. Here at Hobe’s Country Ham, we suggest that you make sure your holiday feasting traditions include a beautiful whole ham as your leading entrée.

While we love turkey and don’t think it needs to disappear from the table entirely, that doesn’t mean it needs to be the star! Turkey is notoriously difficult to cook and often yields dry, tough meat. Because whole turkeys are so large, it is very tricky to have the meat cooked to a safe temperature without parts of the bird drying out first. Ham, on the other hand, is relatively easy to cook, has a wealth of flavor, and can be moist with versatile leftovers. If you really want turkey on Thanksgiving to keep with your traditions, consider serving a turkey breast rather than the whole bird and let your whole ham take the spotlight!

Once the holiday meal is over, attention is turned to the leftovers. There are few items that you are excited to eat once more after the feasting is done- and whole ham is one of those items! You can use it in every meal for omelets, sandwiches, soups, and so much more. Even the ham hock is a great flavor addition to beans or other meals.
